What more can we say about the new objects in the “OrienTales” collection? Much has already been said about this new development in Giovannoni’s playful approach to design, and his ability to use energy, inventiveness and talent in interpreting the arts and crafts of the Far East preserved in the mysterious halls of Taiwan's National Palace Museum… although we can reveal that great new developments are in the pipeline for next year!
This new collection also provided the opportunity for publication of the book “Orientales. Eastern stories through western eyes” (Gli Ori publishers). The project was conceived in collaboration with Stefano Giovannoni and Lin Mun-lee, director of Taiwan's National Palace Museum. The book’s 170 pages picture the remarkable collection of the museum’s artistic exhibits reinterpreted through Giovannoni’s sharp insight.
The key elements of the Museum’s craft traditions provide a convenient link to the pieces in our new collection, OrienTales. This bold concept, a new step in our attempt to create a cultural bridge between East and West, is enhanced among other things by the words of Alessandro Mendini and the pictures of photographers Giacomo Giannini and Carlo Lavatori.
